The job of an Emergency Medical Technicians EMTs is both critical and exciting, being one of the most important jobs in the healthcare field. EMTs are used in a variety of disciplines such as for ambulance agencies providing prehospital emergency care to those who are in need of medical assistance.
They also work as firefighters and police officers providing initial care to those in need. Additionally, hospitals utilize EMTs primarily in the emergency department to assist with triage, patient treatment and transportation within the hospital. Finally, an EMT may also work in the military as a combat medic or hospital corpsman, in the private or public sector security service industry as well as through a variety of other jobs. Besides being beneficial for employment, most people feel that they have accomplished a lifetime achievement by completing an EMT program.

The traditional EMT recertification program requires a total of 72 hours of continuing education to recertify. This model includes a refresher course and continuing education. An inactive status is designated for Nationally Certified EMS Professionals who are currently not providing patient care at their certification level. For example, inactive status may be helpful for EMS professionals who:.
A request to return to active status must be accompanied by a completed Inactive to Active Registration form which may be downloaded here. To comply with accreditation requirements, the National Registry is required to randomly audit applications. In addition to random quality assurance audits, the National Registry reserves the right to investigate certification and recertification material at any time.
You must retain verification of attendance of all education submitted for at least 36 months. Failure to submit documentation when audited may result in denial of eligibility to recertify.
If the recertification application was not received by the March 31 deadline, but all educational requirements were completed by March 31 deadlineindividuals may seek reinstatement of the National EMS Certification until April Recertification cycles start on the date the recertification application is successfully processed and approved by the National Registry.
After a recertification application is approved, the new expiration date will be two years after the current expiration date listed on the individual's account. National Component: 20 Hours. Local or State Component: 10 Hours. Individual Component: 10 Hours.

Each student will complete two skills practice days and at least one National Registry Skills Testing Day. These days are posted in advance to accommodate our students' schedules. Students will complete 48 hours of EMS time with at least 6 patient transports, and 24 hours of Emergency Department time.
